The fierce wolf and the brave hunter

THE FIERCE WOLF AND THE BRAVE HUNTER

by Ana Maria Machado

TO WORK THE FEAR

Hi
once upon a time there was a boy who lived in a cabin in the woods, with his
father, who was a hunter, and his mother, who did everything: cooked,
she washed, ironed, cleaned, sewed, was bored and sighed.
I
once upon a time there was also a wolf who lived in a cave there
same forest, with all his family, because the wolves like it
to live in community, that is to say, in herd.
He
child played with other children who appeared there: the children of
lumberjack, the laundry line, the peddler's grandson, one
girl who sometimes got lost in the forest picking raspberries...
He
little wolf played with other wolves similar to him, brothers and
cousins, some of the same breed, some older, some older
little ones They had fun with games of rolling on the floor, rolling all over
sides…
A
sometimes, at night, the father or mother told stories to the child in the
fireplace. And these stories always had to do with the wolf
fierce He could talk about little pigs, Little Red Riding Hood and many more
other things; but you know, suddenly, a ferocious wolf appeared that
he growled, snorted, got angry, knocked down houses, and had big eyes
big and also a mouth so big that it only wanted to eat them
children
A
sometimes, also at night, in the cave, the little wolf would cost him
fell asleep and stayed listening to the stories that the older wolves
they explained to each other. And these tales always had one
bad hunter They could talk about clean streams, vast fields and
many other things; but you know, suddenly, a hunter appeared who
he set traps, he shot them, he skinned the wolves he had
killed

When the boy grew a little and could go out on his own, he asked for permission:
Mom, can I play in the forest?
And his mother always answered:
- Of course you can, but be careful my son. Don't go too far. There might be a wolf out there.
When the wolverine grew a little and could go out on its own, he asked for permission:
Mom, can I play in the forest?
Of course you can, but be careful my son. Don't go too far. There might be a hunter out there.
And they didn't go very far.
But
as they lived in the same forest and were growing, their steps were
longer and longer and they got closer and closer.
Until one day…
One day, the boy was distracted, a little far from home, and stepped on a dry branch that creaked.
Then,
the wolf, who was also there, distracted and a little distant from
home, he heard the rustling, was startled and growled. Yen
At that moment, the two turned and looked at each other.
Suddenly. face to face
Each
one put on one of the rarest faces anyone can put on: face of
fear, very afraid, real panic. And there were so many panicked faces
scary that the wolf ran off in one direction and the boy
took, also running, the opposite.
When he got home, the boy explained:
- I met a wolf in the forest, but he was so afraid to see me that he ran away.
Upon arriving at the cave, the wolf explained:
- I met a hunter in the forest, but he was so scared when he saw me that he ran away.
Those who heard them did not really believe what they said. But the most important thing is that they both believed it.
O
that seemed Because, since that day, when he wants to go to the forest, the boy
he puts his hands in his pockets and comes out whistling: "who fears the wolf
fierce…”
And when the wolf wants to stay awake for the night, he stretches his muzzle towards the moon and howls:
"he left, he ran away, it was me..."
