Puppets are special.
Introduction
“Just like the sun, the air or
the energy resources we use to heat our homes,
puppets contain certain elements that make them unique and are one
important educational resource. These elements are combined by converting them
in a very powerful material. And used correctly, efficiency
of the resource increases. ” (Communication elements of the puppet. Jeffrey L. Peyto).

This study shows the great
range of possibilities that the use of puppets in school has. Is
it is necessary to make this element known to the educational community
training in all its aspects: technical, historical, manipulation, de
construction and therapeutic use. The ignorance of some of these
aspects can make it difficult to use and therefore not take advantage of
this resource in all its pedagogical extension.

A puppet is an instrument of
different communication from a book or any other tool
of learning. The puppet is personally connected to the user.
This quality explains its effectiveness in teaching.

Given the ignorance
widespread, puppets often enter the classroom as fun
more, like a misused game tool. Sometimes they are resorted to by
spending time, when you don’t really know what to do or how to fill a space
curricular, thus wasting the great didactic wealth they can
originate.

Puppets are generators of multiple learning, not just involving knowledge (concepts, the purely cognitive), but also involve know-how (procedures, methods, techniques, strategies…) and learning to be (norms, values, attitudes…).
Thanks to this research
you will know its origin and evolution in the world, the different techniques
and its current therapeutic use. Fieldwork has allowed me to be contacted
with the teachers of Catalonia who have used or are
using puppets in their regular classes and in classrooms
of special education. Communication with some of them has been a lot
profitable and has facilitated the exchange of activities, consultations and
knowledges.

In this work one is detailed

If the teacher has to work at
classes with puppets is basic to know what experiences have been
performed everywhere, to be able to start from them and develop new techniques
and applications.

I was invited to participate
at the Charleville-Mézières World Puppet Festival.

I got in touch with
the director of this association, Madeleine Lions and later I go
visit its headquarters in Paris. There I collected documentation on
therapeutic experiences with puppets in the world, and I found out
of the recent creation of FIMS, “International Puppet Federation for Health”.
I explained to them the work I was doing, they showed a lot
interested in the results and offered me to be a member of it
federation as a Spanish representative. Almost all the material I go
get was in other languages (French and English), so I go
translate the texts to have the information.

England. To the. XVII, there was a game of chance that consisted of

The referee counted the amount that was there, and checked what it was

Towards the end of the s. XVIII enters the vocabulary of horse racing.
This word is linked to
concept of competition. In the 19th century he arrived in France with the idea of
put on a weight or run a greater distance to the horses they were
better, to equalize the conditions. During the nineteenth century it extends to
of other sports. And, by metonymy, it is designated at a disadvantage
imposed in a test on a contestant of superior quality. From here it comes to
early twentieth century, figuratively the meaning of lock,
annoyance, inferiority. And that word replaced maladaptation.

Once I had everything ready
the theoretical part came the time to perform the practical part.
Many times the special education teacher is orphaned of resources
to work in their classes. That is why the theoretical work
I have complemented it with a practical section. A pedagogical suitcase
named: "Puppets are special", which includes a series
of tasks to be able to work in class on the learnings of the students
children with special educational needs.

Puppet theater is an art
complete where the visual arts are combined (shape, color, light,
textures), music (sound, rhythms, silences), movement
(weight, muscle tone, displacements), theater (characters, roles,
conflict, action, space, time), dance, literature, technology,
mathematics (know how to measure, calculate, divide materials), history,
science and values. All disciplines can be present in one
globalizing and interdisciplinary project carried out with puppets.
