The legend of St. George

Level: Upper Primary Cycle
Disorder: ADHD
Technique: Shadows
The manipulation of shadows forces us to perform a small and precise control over our movements, and therefore a concentration on staging.

That is why this technique is one of the most suitable for working on learning with students with ADHD.
These students often move their hands excessively and have difficulty quietly engaging in leisure activities.
Having to concentrate on listening to the recording of the story and manipulating it at the same time helps to keep the attention for a period of time.
Not being able to speak and following the instructions in the script that listens reinforces self-control.
This activity requires working for a long-term goal -divided into short stages-, testing the will and perseverance of the student.
It is important for the teacher to plan the changes in advance, giving them time to complete them. Due to the student's difficulty in following the rules, clear rules must be established and reviewed when the tests are conducted. It is also important to positively reinforce their performance. The event involved in representing the role in front of other students in the school increases their self-esteem and facilitates the disappearance of mistrust and insecurity.

METHODOLOGY
Construction of shadows and subsequent representation of the Legend of St. George by the student and the teacher and then with classmates.
After making the caption, you can photograph the scenes and make a presentation with the computer program "Power Point" to post it on the web.

PROCEDURES
  • The CD legend is heard.
  • The characters involved in the legend are identified and reviewed with the script in hand.
  • Missing characters are constructed with shadows.
  • The legend is rehearsed.
  • It is performed in front of the whole class and then in front of the other cycles of the school.
Following this individual work with the student, the activity is repeated with class groups. Each student achieves the role of a shadow in a story.
With the material of the activity there are other stories to represent. The stories can be divided into groups and performed by the classes of Early Childhood Education, Initial Cycle and Middle Cycle of the school. The adequacy of each story must be taken into account for the ages at which the performance will be directed.
Once you have worked individually with the student with special educational needs, it is important to carry out the activities with the rest of the class as well, as this helps to boost their self-esteem and strengthen their security.
